Develop Nova Scotia is leading several projects that are improving waterfront infrastructure and public space.

Visitors and locals alike who spend time along the Halifax Waterfront this summer are enjoying more public space at the water’s edge thanks to an expanded boardwalk that offers more wharfage near the Salt Yard area of the waterfront.

With ample seating of colourful Adirondack chairs overlooking the Halifax harbour and lively activity from the Stubborn Goat Beer Garden, Salt Yard Social, and other local businesses close by, the development has been a hub of activity and experiences since its completion this summer.

The welcome Halifax Waterfront expansion is part of the Foundation Wharves project—an initiative led by Develop Nova Scotia—which aims to improve waterfront infrastructure and public space.

“We’re thrilled to see this project come to life and offer our visitors more space and activities to enjoy along the waterfront,” says Ross Jefferson, President and CEO, Discover Halifax. “Having access to the water and building our marine infrastructure enhances the visitor experience. We’re grateful that our partners like Develop Nova Scotia are doing this through the implementation of the Marine Visitation Plan.”

For those accessing the Halifax Waterfront by boat, the project also includes the addition of more floating docks. With the new docks in place, the Halifax Waterfront Marina now offers more than 1.5 kilometres of public berth space and 2400 feet of floating docks.

Further down the boardwalk near the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, work is underway to improve coastal infrastructure and enhance the experience of museum-goers and waterfront users who visit. The revitalization of the Acadia Wharf is a collaborative project led by Develop Nova Scotia, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, and other partners.

These projects, along with other significant developments along the Halifax Waterfront, will continue to build on Halifax’s ocean advantage in a way that will support its economic prosperity.
