The position
Reporting the Vice President, Destination Development, the Tourism Research Analyst has expertise in tourism data visualization, dashboard management, data mining, statistical analysis, GIS modelling, and research support. This pivotal role is designed to develop our understanding of the tourism industry through analysis and technological innovation. As a member of the Discover Halifax team, you will contribute across all aspects of the organization, providing research, project management, interpretation and analysis, reporting, presentations, and client consultation. Responsibilities
- Performing professional work, and providing technical assistance and information to Discover Halifax colleagues about various tourism industry issues, focusing on visitation statistics and geospatial data.
- Undertake special projects that involve designing and conducting primary tourism research, such as surveys and stakeholder interviews, and where applicable, GIS analysis. Develop mapping capability within the organization and associated tools and methodologies for interpretation.
- Maintain and analyze existing data, including spreadsheet management, KPI tracking, and periodic analysis using business intelligence tools to generate insights and identify trends and patterns.
- Incorporate AI models and prompt engineering to enhance data analysis capabilities and workflows. Utilize these tools for spatial analysis, optimizing tourism experiences, and developing innovative data-driven solutions.
- Conduct industry research to stay updated on relevant trends, policies, and information. Apply advanced data mining techniques in market research, guiding strategic planning, and decision-making.
- Establish and oversee KPIs and reporting systems to track the progress of tourism initiatives, and ensure data accuracy and integrity through rigorous quality assurance and governance.
- Implement strategies to enhance organizational data management and insights. Create and manage interactive dashboards to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study (economics, marketing, statistics, business, computer science), or the equivalent combination of education, market research, business analysis, technical certifications or training, or comparable work experience.
- Data modelling, advanced statistical analysis, and data management skills.
- Experience with AI survey design, programming, and execution,and working with online survey tools.
- Experience working with statistical software tools.
- Experience conducting economic impact assessments.
- Market research design for both qualitative and quantitative projects.
- Experience with GIS analysis, or the ability to learn and embrace mapping technology.
- Highly competent in MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Position details
The Tourism Research Analyst will work a hybrid schedule from the office and home, generally 37.5 hours/week, generally Monday to Friday during business hours. The salary range is $54,000 to $75,000 annually. Successful candidates may be eligible for the Discover Halifax benefits package, which includes health, dental, long-term disability, life insurance coverage, and RRSP matching.
