The position

Reporting the Vice President, Festivals and Events, the Senior Manager, Event Marketing plays a pivotal role in enhancing Halifax's reputation as a premier destination for major events and festivals. This role is dedicated to developing and implementing innovative marketing and branding campaigns, targeting event rights holders and producers in the sports and culture sectors. Additionally, the Senior Manager will play a vital role in cultivating local event leaders, creating marketing campaigns for major hosting events, and providing tailored programs and services to local event producers.

Responsibilities

  • Developing cohesive branding and comprehensive marketing strategies to position Halifax as a prime destination for festival, sport, and cultural event promoters, producers, and rights holders.
  • In collaboration with the marketing and visitor experience teams, supporting festival and event-related marketing activities.
  • Assisting with regional bid activities and coordinating recognition and sales initiatives.
  • Overarching goal is to boost visitation, strengthen community engagement, and raise the profile of Halifax's events and festivals.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years in marketing, including at least three years in a managerial role, with a preference for experience in events, festivals, or similar sectors.
  • Experience in creating, developing, and maintaining a consistent and appealing brand identity.
  • A proven track record of designing and executing effective marketing campaigns.
  • Expertise in designing and executing marketing campaigns in a sales environment.
  • Experience in crafting and implementing marketing strategies for public events.
  • Skilled in engaging with local communities, stakeholders, and partners, including building relationships with local businesses, cultural groups, and public entities to foster collaboration.
  • Ability to leverage data analytics to inform marketing strategies and assess the effectiveness of campaigns and events.
  • Experience in managing budgets with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and allocation of resources.
  • Prior experience in a data-driven environment is advantageous.
  • Previous work with public agencies or community-focused organizations is considered a plus.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effectively conveying ideas, engaging with community members, and collaborating with stakeholders. Includes strong listening skills essential for understanding needs and feedback.
  • Competence in understanding and valuing diverse community backgrounds and perspectives, ensuring marketing materials and events are inclusive and culturally sensitive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships within the team, across the organization, and with external partners and community leaders.
  • Proficiency in negotiating with vendors and other stakeholders to secure optimal terms for services and partnerships.

Position details

The Senior Manager, Event Marketing will work a hybrid schedule from the office and home, 40 hours/week, generally Monday to Friday during business hours, however there may be some requirement for evening or weekend time.
