The Canteen co-owner takes the helm of Discover Halifax Board of Directors

HALIFAX, NS – After serving five years on Discover Halifax’s Board of Directors, Doug Townsend, co-owner of The Canteen on Portland, has taken the reigns as Chair of the Board of Directors.

“I’m pleased to share news that Doug Townsend is the next Chair of our Board of Directors,” says Discover Halifax President and CEO, Ross Jefferson. “As Vice-Chair of the Board for the last two years, Doug has been a part of the leadership structure, and has been active in steering the organization toward milestones and achievements. I look forward to continuing to work with him in the years to come as we expand our mandate and take on new responsibilities.”

Doug takes over from retiring Chair, Jennifer Angel, who has spent the last three years in the position helping to support and guide the non-profit through the creation of Halifax's first Integrated Tourism Master Plan, as well as planning and recovery through COVID-19.

“I’m excited to lead the impressive group of community champions that make up the Board of Directors of Discover Halifax, and for the opportunity to contribute to the economic and social success of our region,” says Townsend. “And I want to thank Jennifer for her leadership and dedication over the last eight years. She is a friend, a mentor, and has left big shoes to fill - but I’m up for the challenge."

The change to the Board of Directors was announced at the Discover Halifax Annual General Meeting, along with a few others:

  • Emily Haynes, has become Vice-Chair;
  • Carey Power assumes the position held for the Hotel Association of Nova Scotia (HANS);
  • Megan Delaney, former HANS representative on the Board, returns; and
  • Ifeanyi Emesih, My East Coast Experience Media Group INC Founder and CEO, joins the Board for his first term.
