Discover Halifax recently launched a TikTok account to help connect potential visitors with our members and experiences here in the Halifax region.
While it has long been proven that social media helps build desire and inspiration for potential visitors, few Destination Marketing Organizations have harnessed TikTok effectively.
But after completing a best-in-class review, including some more mature accounts like Destination Toronto, Tourism Manitoba, and Tourism Winnipeg, Discover Halifax is pleased to share we have launched a leisure-focused TikTok account and have started posting content.
Launched in September, Discover Halifax’s following has gone from zero to over 600 in a matter of weeks, with videos garnering strong engagement.
“The key to the success on this platform is authenticity,” says Maggie Duffy, Marketing Content Coordinator and lead of the TikTok project launch. “There’s no need for highly polished videos – in fact, users generally engage more with those that are a bit grittier, and reflect real world experience. We want our content to feel native to the channel.”
The first three videos feature Parks Canada’s George’s Island, downtown Halifax chocolate shops, and The Birch and Anchor.
Discover Halifax joins the channel with partners like Nova Scotia Tourism and members like Flynn’s Dairy Bar, Café Lara, and Freak Lunchbox. Along with our other social channels, Discover Halifax will be using TikTok to help connect potential visitors with our members and experiences here in the Halifax region.
TikTok has had a meteoric rise in popularity over the past five years. From only 85 million users worldwide in Q1 of 2018, the app now has 1.466 billion users as of Q2 2022. This engaged, and steadily aging, audience spends an average of 95 minutes on the app per day.
