This June, Discover Halifax was excited to become a member of the Travel Media Association of Canada and to join their annual conference, which was held in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The first in-person event since 2019 brought together 93 travel media delegates, along with 107 tourism industry delegates from across the country. The conference, which spanned five days from June 22 to 26, connects industry delegates to writers and digital content creators through professional development sessions, marketplace meetings, and networking events. These connections inspire new travel stories that will be spread worldwide.

"Connecting with this power-house crew of influential travel writers on our doorstep is a rare opportunity and sharing our region's story with them was an incredible experience,” says Clare Tidby, VP, Marketing and Visitor Experience at Discover Halifax. “We were so happy to participate and thank the TMAC organizers, Tourism Nova Scotia, and our friends at Yarmouth & Acadian Shores, who did such a fantastic job in promoting their region and the entire province."

Discover Halifax’s delegate, Christian Allain (Manager, Marketing and Sales) had one-on-one meetings with 23 content creators and writers, spanning from Nova Scotia to Ontario to Victoria. While each delegate’s interests covered a wide range of our region’s offerings, nearly all remarked on the vibrancy of the city and how much it has grown since their last visit.

Many delegates, including Travel Mammal, Parenting to Go, Taxi-Brousse, and Carolyn Heller, chose to stay in the Halifax region both before and after the conference, producing wonderful content about their time here. In collaboration with TMAC and the MUIR, Discover Halifax hosted all delegates upon their arrival to the province, showcasing our newest hotel and the gorgeous Halifax waterfront.

As this year’s host of the TMAC conference, Yarmouth warmly welcomed delegates with great east coast hospitality. The town served up everything from a lobster supper and Acadian music, to a dine-around experience at the Digby Pines Golf and Country Club. It was a true celebration of what the region has to offer.

Discover Halifax is excited to join such a trusted organization to help connect our destination with TMAC members, who help promote our region as Canada’s best travel storytellers. We can’t wait for next year’s conference in Sudbury!
