Discover Halifax has curated and launched the top 10 reasons to visit Halifax in 2022.

January 4, 2022 – Halifax, Nova Scotia: Discover Halifax is kicking off the new year with its ‘Top 10 Reasons to Visit Halifax in 2022’ campaign. With its vast open spaces and unique experiences that blend urban hustle with rural relaxation, Halifax offers a safe destination for travellers to create new memories and rediscover Canada’s favourite city in 2022.

“The top 10 campaign is a fantastic way to highlight unique Halifax experiences and help people start to plan their trip to Halifax this year. We’re all dreaming of a time when we can move about more freely, and we wanted to help people tap into what a lovely vacation could look like in 2022,” says Clare Tidby, VP, Marketing and Visitor Experience at Discover Halifax. “The campaign is also a fun way to showcase some of the wonderful businesses, experiences, and events right here in our backyard.”

The 2022 list includes:

  1. See the new Peggy’s Cove viewing platform
  2. Explore Public Art
  3. Dine Around 2022 (Feb 1-28)

Tidby says with countless stand-out attractions, natural wonders, restaurants, accommodations and more, pulling the list together was no easy feat.

“Anyone who lives or has spent time in Halifax knows there are countless reasons to visit. So, we looked at the research we conducted between July and October 2021 to identity key visitor interests, assessed major events and anniversaries happening in Halifax in 2022, and considered anything new in the region that would be a draw to both first-time and repeat visitors.”

Tidby adds that seasonal activities, regional representation across Halifax’s 210 communities, and diversity and inclusion were key considerations in building the list.

Sail Nova Scotia President Eric Hill says he’s thrilled to see the 2022 49er World Sailing Championships included in the list, especially since this marks the first time the competition will take place in Canada.

“Nova Scotia has a long history of high-performance racing and training. St. Margarets Bay is one of the best sailing venues in Canada and is known for having great winds and ideal sailing conditions. This event will bring awareness across Nova Scotia to Skiff & Nacra sailing and leave a wonderful legacy of improved infrastructure for sailors,” says Hill.
