June 15, 2021 - Halifax, NS – Today, Discover Halifax, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Halifax Partnership and the Halifax Regional Municipality will launch a new marketing campaign to drive new revenue into the visitor economy and arm Nova Scotians with information and tools to help them discover something new in the Halifax region this summer.

“We know there’s a pent-up demand amongst Nova Scotians to get out and enjoy their summers. We also know that local businesses who rely on the visitor economy have been among the hardest hit in the past 18 months,” says Ross Jefferson, President & CEO of Discover Halifax. “Our intention with this campaign is to arm Nova Scotians with the information they need to be a tourist right here in our backyard. We know there are a tremendous number of amazing experiences here in our province and it is our goal to help curate these and share with everyone.”

“This campaign is exactly what our city needs right now. With all of us spending so much time closer to home this summer, it’s time we all start being tourists in our own backyards,” says Patrick Sullivan, President & CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. “As we move through the phases of reopening and more restrictions lift, small businesses are going to need our support and this campaign will help us do that.”

“There’s never been a more important time to showcase everything Halifax has to offer,” says Wendy Luther, President & CEO, Halifax Partnership. “Local retailers, restaurants, and tourism businesses across the region have been deeply impacted by COVID and are ready to welcome customers back as restrictions ease. There’s so much to explore, right here at home and this campaign highlights how to help local businesses recover while discovering something new in Halifax all summer long.”

“Whether you’re playing local tourist or are able to welcome visitors from further afield this summer, it’s time to support local businesses and experience everything that makes the Halifax region so special,” said Mayor Mike Savage.

The campaign will encourage Halifax and Nova Scotian residents to try new experiences in their province and serve as a reminder of the impact of spending your dollars locally. The Halifax Chamber and Discover Halifax will also be running a weekly social media contest for 5 weeks with a bundle of local gift cards valued at $500 total as prizes.
