Halifax is made for families!
Year after year, research shows Canadians see Halifax as a family-friendly destination, and Discover Halifax wants to make sure those families know how to connect with our members in any season they visit.
In the coming months, stay tuned for family-focused initiatives that will help turn those considering a trip to Halifax into actual visitors.
The 2024 edition of the Halifax Kids’ Guide is full of fun, family activities that offer a mix of free (beaches, hikes, Halifax Common) and paid activities (Discovery Centre, museums, Hatfield farms). The guide also includes businesses that offer kid-approved favourites like ice cream and candy shops, toys and books.
Designed by locals as a resource to help guardians (aka, the grown-ups!) plan family activities, the guide also aims to engage kids with interactive content, and features a mix of play and education with colouring pages, jokes, and word searches. It also includes learning and language activities, such as providing a Mi’kmaq word guide.
The launch of the Kids’ Guide will coincide with a focused marketing campaign in the four Atlantic provinces to encourage families to visit Halifax during their spring school breaks in March. This campaign is supported by Tourism Nova Scotia through the DCMP program.
A campaign will also run in Ontario, aiming to strengthen our position as a family destination in Canada, recognizing that the time required to action any travel plans from that province may be longer.
Both campaigns are supported by our partners at the Halifax International Airport Authority, helping to drive visitation in shoulder seasons.
