Inventory, survey, and study will set the stage for future event planning
Halifax has become a prominent destination for hosting national and international events, showcasing our ability to manage large-scale, diverse gatherings.
Successfully hosting events such as Canoe 22, the 2023 North American Indigenous Games, the 2024 Juno Awards, and the first-ever Canada Sail Grand Prix have demonstrated Halifax's readiness and capability to handle significant events, and have further solidified our reputation of delivering world-class event experiences.
To make sure we’re ready for the future, Discover Halifax, in collaboration with HRM, Events Nova Scotia, and Events East, is conducting a comprehensive study to further develop Halifax as a premier destination for cultural and sporting events.
This work is about discovering opportunity and untapped potential, while identifying potential risks, and will involve a detailed inventory and analysis of existing event venues to assess their readiness to host events, based on national and international technical requirements. It will also assess local organizations' capacity to host these events.
The venue inventory is underway, with information being gathered to form a snapshot of venues across the municipality. In addition to the inventory assessment, a survey has been sent to identified stakeholders, including venue operators, producers, provincial sport organizations, key partners, arts organizations, and others.
The information provided will help inform discussions focused on ensuring Halifax continues to deliver world-class experiences. Your input will help us:
- Ensure the event history list is up to date.
- Obtain specific information on current event hosting venue capacity.
- Understand the capacity of event organizations to plan, organize, and deliver events.
