Below is a statement from President and CEO, Ross Jefferson, on a year of continued growth in the tourism sector:

As we look back on 2024, it’s clear that it was a transformative year for our organization and our community. It marked the first year under our new service agreement with the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and the introduction of two new departments. These changes have strengthened our foundation, setting us up for a future of growth and innovation.

One of the key focuses this past year has been leveraging the potential of artificial intelligence, or AI. AI is not just a trend but a powerful tool that holds tremendous promise for the tourism industry. By integrating AI-driven insights and solutions, we are positioning HRM as a forward-thinking destination that meets the evolving needs of visitors and residents alike. Our commitment to innovation ensures that we remain competitive and resilient, even as the landscape of global tourism continues to shift.

While we are evolving and embracing change, we are also seeing signs of stability and sustainability. This balance is vital, especially given the ongoing uncertainties in global markets, particularly to the south. Despite these challenges, we continue to make strategic decisions that fortify our position. Our progress is made possible through collaboration, and we owe much of our success to partners and stakeholders who share our vision.

HRM is uniquely positioned to thrive in this environment. Our flexibility, combined with the support and dedication of our partners, ensures that we are prepared to face what the future holds. And when we launch the Halifax Regional Integrated Tourism Master Plan 2030 later this year, we will have a plan that shapes the future of tourism in our region. This has never been more important, and I’m excited to share the plan with you all.

I am confident that as we move forward, we will continue to build on our successes, fostering a vibrant and dynamic tourism sector that benefits everyone involved.
