A living history

The Shubenacadie River is an historic waterway in the heart of Nova Scotia. From its deep significance to the Mi’kmaq people to its role in the industrial era, it has long been a passage of connection. Today, it continues to be a gem of the Dartmouth community, providing local and visitors year-round access to trails and interpretation opportunities.

When you explore the canal today, you walk through layers of history—one that began thousands of years ago and continues to shape the identity of Nova Scotia. Whether through paddling its waters, hiking its trails, or simply pausing to reflect, the Shubenacadie Canal remains a place of connection, evolution, and renewal.

We’re proud to have partnered with Dr. Roger Lewis, Richard MacMichael, the Shubenacadie Canal Commission, the Nova Scotia Indigenous Tourism Enterprise Network, and Mirror Image Media in the creation of a new video that will help to educate about the Canal and entice visitors to explore.
