Advisory Committee - Terms of Reference
Discover Halifax is updating the Halifax Regional Integrated Tourism Master Plan and has selected community leaders for the ITMP 2030 Advisory Committee. Your economic and community development leadership represents a broad perspective rooted in Halifax's prosperity.
Your unique insights and networks will ensure our strategy reflects Halifax's essence. As a key stakeholder, your guidance and resources are crucial to the success of this project. The Advisory Committee will oversee and ultimately recommend the updated plan to Halifax Regional Council for adoption. We look forward to collaborating with you to make Halifax even more vibrant for residents and visitors.
Role and responsibilities
As a member of the ITMP 2030 Advisory Committee, you will play a key role in shaping the future of tourism in our region. Your expertise in community and economic development will be instrumental in providing guidance that aligns with broader community interests, ensuring the plan benefits everyone.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic guidance: Provide strategic advice and direction throughout the project, ensuring it reflects diverse perspectives and addresses priorities.
- Collaborative alignment: Work with fellow members to share insights on related community and economic initiatives, ensuring alignment and amplifying the project's overall impact.
- Advocacy and endorsement: Support the endorsement of the final plan by advocating for its adoption within the community and helping to build consensus among key stakeholders.
We recognize that sensitive information may be shared throughout your involvement. We trust that you will maintain confidentiality unless otherwise agreed upon. Should a conflict of interest arise, we ask that you let us know and step back from related discussions.
Decision-making
Our approach to decision-making will be collaborative, striving for consensus whenever possible. We value open dialogue and understand that while we may not always agree, our collective goal is to support decisions that benefit the broader community.
Membership
The Committee will be chaired by a member appointed by the President and CEO of Discover
Halifax, with support provided by the Vice President of Destination
Development and the ITMP Project Consultant as non-voting, ex-officio
members.
We hope all members can remain engaged in the project
from September 2024 to March 2025 and attend what we anticipate as three
meetings. Meetings will primarily be held in person at various
locations across HRM, with details provided in advance. To ensure
decisions can be made efficiently, a quorum will be 50 per cent of
representatives plus one.
We look forward to your participation and the valuable perspective you'll bring to this important community initiative.
Staff support
Discover Halifax staff will support the volunteer committee members by coordinating meetings, offering expertise, and providing access to necessary data and resources. They will facilitate communication between the committee and consultants, assist with logistical planning, and manage meeting preparation. Additionally, staff will provide orientation and ongoing guidance to ensure committee members can effectively focus on their advisory or decision-making tasks.
