Overview

A coordinated framework will strategically grow and manage cultural and major events across the region. Events generate significant impact, yet Halifax’s approach has been fragmented. A Regional Events Strategy will provide a 10-year vision and five-year plan aligned with cultural identity, infrastructure, and community priorities. Clear funding policies, governance, and inclusive programming will strengthen Halifax’s reputation as a year-round event destination.

Project Updates

Plan approved to grow and manage cultural and major events in HRM

April 2026 

On April 14, Halifax Regional Council received and approved the Halifax Regional Event Strategy, and associated policy framework. The work was led jointly by the municipality and Discover Halifax, in partnership with Events Nova Scotia and Events East.

Development of the Regional Event Strategy took place throughout 2025, and included engagement with more than 150 stakeholders across the event ecosystem - event producers, cultural organizations, tourism partners, community groups, and residents - to ensure it reflected both industry realities, and community priorities.

The result is a coordinated framework that outlines how events will be planned, supported, and delivered across the region, along with the governance, funding, and policy changes needed to enable a consistent and strategic approach.

All foundational work required to reach this stage has been completed, including research and engagement, validation of direction, development of the governance and delivery model, and identification of required updates to funding programs and administrative policies.
