Background

Through the extensive consultations and work to develop the ITMP, several key demand generators were identified in Halifax. Specifically, the arts, entertainment and heritage sectors came up time-and-time again as a strength for Halifax because these attract visitors to the region and contribute to our excellent quality of life.

The designation of specific districts build focus and capacity. The districts should include programming as well as commercial activation. In examining this opportunity through a phased response to COVID-19, this is also an action item that can help fuel the destination’s recovery efforts. Shovel-ready initiatives should be seized to build infrastructure as part of the stimulus spending and projects such as the Waterfront Arts District, and Entertainment District through the Music City Strategy and conservation of Heritage Districts should all be prioritized as part of the longer-term investment in the Halifax region.
